American Idiot on Broadway
Last week, I was fortunate enough to be invited to American Idiot – a musical adapted from Green Day’s music – on Broadway. The show hasn’t officially opened yet, meaning while audiences can pay to see it now, the show cannot be officially reviewed (because the cast is still in rehearsal during the day, etc.), but, everyone should go see it soon. The acting is great, the singing is fun and loud, the whole show is just so entertaining. It reminded me of Rent, in that the plot deals with drug use, coming of age, and mature relationships (the characters simulate sex on the stage). But unlike Rent, the band is on the stage the whole time so you get the feeling that you’re at a rock concert. I really loved it and encourage everyone to go see it. Especially if your family is coming into town soon (Hi Meg) and you are looking for something new to see on Broadway.
*Editor’s Note: The cast does not sing “Basketcase” or “Time of Your Life (Good Riddance).”
